Government prepares bills to amend Federal university laws

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 25 – The Ministry of Education and Sports is preparing bills to amend the laws governing several federal universities with a focus on addressing changing academic and administrative needs.

The ministry held discussions with vice-chancellors of all federal universities on Tuesday to gather their views and suggestions on proposed legal amendments.

According to the ministry the discussions covered university autonomy, good governance, and academic and administrative reforms. Participants also provided recommendations on updating existing legal provisions in line with current needs and changing circumstances.

The ministry said the consultation was organized to incorporate the perspectives of university leadership while drafting the bills. It added that suggestions from the vice-chancellors would help ensure the proposed amendments address practical challenges faced by universities.

The planned legal revisions are aimed at improving the functioning of federal universities while strengthening their autonomy, governance and academic administration.
