Kathmandu [Nepal], August 26 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah has called a high-level meeting to assess the flood situation in Rasuwa and decide on rescue, relief and further response measures.
Shah said security agencies including the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been mobilized in the flood-affected areas for rescue and relief operations. Additional personnel have also been sent from other districts he said.
According to Shah, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has been activated while coordination with medical teams, Nepal scouts, the Red Cross and other relevant agencies is underway.
He said arrangements were being made to send additional ambulances and medical personnel to affected areas.
Chief district officers have been instructed to immediately relocate residents in downstream areas to safer locations. Local residents have also been alerted through SMS and phone calls.
Shah said all helicopters have been placed on standby for possible rescue and relief operations, with private helicopter companies also asked to keep their aircraft ready.
He urged residents to stay in safe locations and contact 1234 for further information and relief-related details.
