Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – Nepal Army helicopter landed at the upper Trishuli 3 ‘A’ Hydropower project on Thursday to begin rescuing employees stranded at the site, which was severely damaged by the Bhotekoshi River flood.
Two attempts to land the helicopter on Wednesday failed because of adverse weather conditions. Following Thursday’s successful landing authorities began assessing the extent of damage and the situation at the project.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has directed officials to expedite rescue operations and take immediate steps to restore electricity services.
Acting Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha has been deployed to the affected area to assess the damage, coordinate rescue efforts and oversee power restoration.
A high-level team including NEA Deputy Managing Director Kiran Kumar Shrestha and other senior officials, has also been mobilised.
The NEA said it has restored electricity to several areas of Nuwakot through an alternative transmission line from Sindhupalchok.
Officials are now preparing to restore power to other affected areas by charging the Chapali–Devighat and Balaju–Trishuli 66 kV transmission lines at 11 kV, using available technical alternatives.
