Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Thursday inspected Bidur and surrounding areas of Nuwakot, which were severely affected by flooding to assess the damage and review ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
Shah left Kathmandu for Nuwakot by road at 9:30 am accompanied by Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal. He inspected flood-affected settlements and infrastructure before returning to the capital later in the day.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat the visit followed extensive damage caused by Wednesday’s flooding along the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa and adjoining riverine areas.
During the inspection Shah assessed the physical damage and held discussions with local administrators, security agencies and elected representatives about the situation and response efforts.
Shah directed authorities to provide immediate relief to displaced families, restore damaged roads and other essential infrastructure as quickly as possible and accelerate longer-term rehabilitation measures.
The Prime Minister has remained actively involved in the government’s response since the floods convening high-level meetings and directing relevant agencies to strengthen rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations.
The visit was intended to provide the Prime Minister with first-hand information on the extent of the destruction and the needs of affected communities.
