Bhotekoshi flood death toll rises to 270 in Nepal


Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – The death toll from the devastating Bhotekoshi River floods in Nepal has risen to 270, according to Nepal Police.

As of 1:30 pm Thursday authorities had recovered the bodies of 270 people from flood-affected areas, police said.

Chitwan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies at 108, followed by East Nawalparasi with 62. A further 27 bodies were recovered in Dhading, 20 in Gorkha, 17 in Rasuwa, 15 in West Nawalparasi, 12 in Nuwakot and 9 in Tanahun.

The floods triggered widespread destruction along river systems and affected several districts downstream with rescue and recovery operations continuing across the affected areas.

Nepal Police has mobilised 4,050 personnel for rescue operations as authorities continue searching for victims and assisting communities affected by the disaster.

The latest figures reflect bodies recovered by authorities and may change as search and rescue teams continue operations in areas hit by the floods.
