Kathmandu [Nepal], August 30 – At least 2,502 people remain unaccounted for following devastating floods that swept through Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi River and other areas of Nepal, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
The authority’s latest update released at 2 pm on Sunday said the bodies of 768 people reported missing in the floods have so far been recovered.
A total of 8,730 people have been rescued from flood-affected districts while search and rescue operations continue as authorities work to locate those still unaccounted for.
Chitwan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies with 259, followed by Nawalparasi East with 184 and Nawalparasi West with 100, according to the authority.
Other recovered bodies include 58 in Gorkha, 52 in Nuwakot, 50 in Dhading, 36 in Tanahu and 13 in Rasuwa.
The floods and landslides have caused extensive damage across several parts of Nepal particularly along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors.
Security personnel continue search, rescue and relief operations in the affected areas with teams working to reach communities cut off by damaged roads and infrastructure.
Authorities are also continuing efforts to account for people reported missing as rescue and recovery operations enter a critical phase.
