Kathmandu [Nepal], September 2 – 1,127 bodies have been recovered so far from the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, according to the latest data released by Nepal Police on Wednesday.
The recovered bodies include 31 boys, 45 girls, 227 women and 397 men. Police have also recovered 427 partial human remains.
Post-mortem documentation has been completed for 1,113 of the recovered bodies while 95 bodies have been handed over to their families. The identities of 911 bodies remain unknown.
Police said 4,858 people are still missing. In addition, information about 1,350 missing people has been received through telephone calls.
Details of the 911 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website to assist with identification and tracing of families.
A total of 7,912 police personnel have so far been deployed in flood-affected areas for rescue, search operations, relief distribution and management of recovered bodies.
Authorities have rescued 6,541 people from the affected areas while search operations continue for those still unaccounted for.
Police teams are also relocating families living in flood-risk areas to safer locations, conducting rescue and search operations in coordination with government agencies and local residents and clearing roads blocked by the disaster.
The latest figures underscore the scale of the devastation caused by the Bhotekoshi floods and the continuing challenge of identifying victims and locating those still missing.
