Kathmandu [Nepal], Sept 21 – Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming presented NPR 11 million aid package to Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel on Monday to assist children affected by devastating floods along the Bhotekoshi River.
The financial support allocated under the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship program provides immediate relief for disaster-impacted students to help resume their education as part of broader regional recovery efforts.
“The Chinese Embassy in Nepal will provide NPR 11,000,000 Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship for disaster-affected students in Nepal. Let’s join hands, rebuild our beautiful homes and forge a brighter future,” the Ambassador said on X.
During the meeting at the ministry in Kathmandu, Minister Pokharel expressed gratitude for Beijing’s timely assistance and voiced confidence in sustained bilateral coordination.
Ambassador Zhang reaffirmed China’s commitment to standing by Nepal during crises, stating that the funds are aimed at directly relieving hardship for affected families.
The grant follows broader discussions between the two officials focused on post-disaster reconstruction, education development and sports cooperation between China and Nepal.
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Zhang also met with Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav to discuss recovery efforts following an August 26 mudslide disaster as well as broader bilateral relations and practical cooperation.
In a post on X following the meeting, Ambassador Zhang expressed confidence that joint efforts across Nepal, supported by China and other friendly nations would enable people in disaster-affected areas to rebuild their homes at an early date.
