Kathmandu- The Sajha Party has objected to the recent mistreatment of doctors in different parts of the country, including the capital Kathmandu, as coronavirus cases are increasing daily.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Co- spokesperson Sharad Raj Pathak stated that the mistreatment of health workers, who have been fighting against the frontlines against the pandemic, by one’s neighbors was inhumane and unlawful.
“Any form of discrimination or abuse against another person is still a legally punishable offense. On top of that, there is a lack of adequate services in such a time of great public health crisis,” stated Pathak.
He added that the coronavirus pandemic should be tackled together, and doctors and security personnel should be supported in their work.
“It is the duty of every citizen to show the highest humanitarian sympathy in this hour of calamity, to do their best to help every other member of society in their difficulties, and to encourage all health workers, security personnel and emergency service providers, including doctors. Only if all citizens do so will our joint fight against COVID 19 be somewhat easier,” the statement said.
The Sajha party has demanded that the government ensure immediate legal action against any person or group who engages in abusive and discriminatory activities against health workers and people infected with the virus based on unnecessary suspicion.
“We urge the general public to play a role in ensuring that health workers across the country feel safe and respected,” the Sajha Party stated.
