KATHMANDU (Aug 23): Kuwait Airways is planning to operate direct flights from Kuwait. Though it has not obtained any permit or initiated any formal process required to make flights yet, it has already started a process to hire staff in Kathmandu.
Currently, Jazeera Airways is the only airlines from Kuwait that is making direct flights to Kathmandu and Bhairahawa from the Arab country.
Gyanendra Bhul, an information officer at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), said that the aviation regulatory authority has not issued any permit to Kuwait Airways to make flights to and from Kathmandu.
Kuwait Airways has started recruitment process even before acquiring the permit to operate flights to or from Nepal. According to a source, the national carrier of Kuwait is carrying out interviews at Soaltee Hotel in Kathmandu to hire staffs in Nepal.
Any international or foreign airlines should first obtain government permit to make flights or hire staff and open office, according to a CAAN official. However, there is not any obligation to acquire permit or inform the aviation regulatory authority if the recruitment is for staff overseas, said CAAN Information Officer Bhul.
Some of the candidates invited for the job interview declined to share about the hiring except that they participated in the interview for a job in Kuwait Airways. They were invited for the interview for ‘crew members’ through various recruitment agents.
Earlier last year, Kuwait Airways had made announcement in its website that it was making scheduled flights to Nepal. However, there has not been any formal progress towards this end.
