Process to integrate CTEVT, CEHRD curriculums begins

KATHMANDU – The process to integrate curriculum developed by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) has started in a bid to assimilate curriculum in technical education system under the Ministry of Education.

There have been complaints that the CTEVT and CEHRD have created and run different curriculum and technical programmes for the same educational institution. Community schools have incorporated curriculum recommended by the CEHRD in grades 9 to 12 and the same community schools run a three-year diploma programme launched by the CTEVT from grades 10. Not only curriculum, teachers for the same school have also undergone same kind of training session given separately by the CTEVT and the CEHRD.

CTEVT technical programmes have been run in 484 community schools (from grades 9 to 12) and its diploma programmes in more than 550 secondary schools.

To integrate and update curriculum, a committee has been formed under the leadership of Prof Dr Rajendra Prasad Adhikari, chair of the management board of the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) following consultation with office bearers of the concerned authority including Minister for Education, Science and Technology Debendra Paudel.

Other members of the committee are member-secretary of the CTEVT, Director General of the CEHRD and member-secretary of the National Examinations Board.

The committee has been tasked with submitting a report within 30 days after preparing integrated curriculum after carrying out a detailed study of technical education in community secondary schools (from grades 9 to 12) and pre-diploma and diploma courses being run in educational institutions under the technical and vocational training. Market demand should also be viewed in the process.
