PCR test to be available at Rs 2000


KATHMANDU : The government of Nepal has notably reduced the price for the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Sunday, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Jageshwor Gautam informed the media that the PCR test will be available at Rs 2,000 from today.

With this, the government and private laboratories will charge Rs 2,000 for an individual’s PRC test against the previous rate of Rs 4,400. Gautam added that the amount was reduced following the slash in the international rate of the test.

According to the Ministry, PCR tests have been conducted in 840,527individuals, with 54,159 of them having tested positive for the coronavirus in Nepal until date.

The government manages PCR tests for about 10,000 people daily. Dr Gautam further shared that Remdesivir vaccine which was received from Bangladesh will be provided from the hospitals and enlisted under the Nepal Health Research Council’s directives. The Council will manage the distribution of the vaccine throughout the country. A total of 5,000 doses of vaccines have been received from neighbouring country Bangladesh.
