Mass cremation performed for nine landslide victims

SYANGJA : A mass cremation was performed for the bodies of nine people who recently lost their lives in the Waling municipality landslides. The deceased were cremated en masse on the bank of Kaligandaki River in Ramnadi (Ramdi) on Thursday evening.

Eight separate funeral pyres were made to cremate the nine bodies. The cremation of a six-month old child was performed on the same funeral pyre along with her 19-year-old mother, Binita Nepali, said Nepal Dalit Sangh Syangja chair Til Bahadur Ranpal.

Jeebala Pariyar, a relative of the deceased, set the funeral fire. “We held the final rites of those killed in the landslides along the Kaligandaki River after performing post-mortem at the Primary Hospital Waling,” Ranpal informed.

The entire village has been aggrieved with the passing away of the nine victims who were all from the same family. Manisha Nepali, 16, the sole survivor who had been rescued, is currently receiving treatment at the Pokhara-based Gandaki Medical College.

Waling municipality mayor Dilip Pratap Khand said that the municipality would bear all the expenses for Manisha’s treatment. Issuing a condolence message, the municipality extended tribute to those killed in the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. —
