BAITADI : District Jail Baitadi has been facing additional challenges in management of jailbirds due to the double number of inmates than its capacity.
There are now 58 people, including 31 inmates and 27 detainees, in the jail, which has the capacity to accommodate only 25 people.
Jailor Anil Tiwari said, “We are facing problems in accommodating the jailbirds due to double the number of inmates than the capacity. The risk has increased in the jail due to the higher number of inmates than its capacity at a time when news regarding confirmation of coronavirus infection and death of inmates at different jails in the country has been disseminated.”
The first case of coronavirus infection was confirmed in a person who was in the custody of the District Police Office on May 22 on a murder charher, and he is now at the jail after winning the battle against the coronavirus.
Tiwari added that problems have surfaced in the supply of drinking water, toilets and accommodation due to congested space in the jail. Although they have adopted alertness not to let spread coronavirus infection in the jail, there is risk of it spreading due to the lack of quarantine and isolation facilities to keep new detainees and inmates, shared Tiwari.
