Two adolescent girls rescued from Nepal-India border


KATHMANDU : Police have rescued two adolescent girls from the Nepal-India border in Koshi rural municipality-8, Bhantabari of Sunsari on Wednesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of District Police Office Sunsari, Narendra Kumar Karki, shared that the two adolescent girls of Saptari were rescued from Bhantabari of Sunsari while allegedly being taken to India for human sacrifice.

A joint security team of Nepal and India rescued the girls from the bordering area, DSP Karki informed. Police have arrested two men for further investigation after interrogation.

The rescued girls are 19 and 22 years old. Police are holding Mahammad Sahil Mansuri, 29, of Krishna Sawaran rural municipality-4, Banauli of Saptari and Jeevachha Kumar Saha, 29, of Lahan municipality-19, Siraha. Karki said.

In the course of security grilling, one of the girls shared with the police that they were being taken as worship offerings to a temple based in an Indian market in Bhimnagar. The girls were to be provided Rs 200,000 for meditation during the time of ongoing worship in the temple across the border.  Further investigation into the incident is underway, DSP Karki added.
