BPKMCH offers free treatment worth Rs 380 million a year to cancer patients


KATHMANDU : The B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (BPKMCH) has offered free treatment worth Rs 380 million in a period of one year, according to data from the hospital.

The hospital has provided free treatment worth over Rs 201 million to blood cancer patients with the financial assistance from The Max Foundation. The Foundation has been providing three types of medicines to blood and intestinal cancer patients since 2004. At present, 630 cancer patients have received the free medicines, said the hospital.

Likewise, the hospital has provided free treatment worth Rs 160 million through the service to impoverished people. The government has been providing Rs 100,000 to cancer patients from poor families.

The hospital has also been providing free treatment worth Rs 1.6 million to senior citizens above 70 years of age suffering from cancer, and free treatment worth over Rs 16 million to children below 15 years of age, said the hospital.

Cancer patients from within the country and as far as India visit the hospital. Executive director of the hospital Dr Dej Kumar Gautam demanded an increment in grants for services given by the government to the poorest cancer patients.
