KATHMANDU – In a major step to advance digital education and foster talent development in Nepal, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT), has launched the Smart classroom in Gandaki Province.
The classroom, equipped with state-of-the-art educational technology from Huawei, was officially inaugurated at Shree Buddhodaya Secondary School in Kwhlosothar Rural Municipality, Lamjung on January 19, 2025.
This initiative is part of a broader friendship project aimed at enhancing educational outcomes and empowering the youth of Nepal. Huawei, a key partner in the project, has provided cutting-edge learning solutions, including the Huawei Idea Hub (an interactive whiteboard), laptops, desktops, Wi-Fi and all necessary infrastructures.
These tools are designed to support both onsite and online education, creating a dynamic learning environment for teachers and students alike. This initiative helps bridge the digital divide, ensuring that students in remote areas have access to high-quality educational content and can compete on a global scale.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Honorable Minister of MoCIT, Mr. Prithvi Subba Gurung, who highlighted the importance of this initiative in addressing educational challenges in rural Nepal. He stated, “This initiative marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and enhancing educational opportunities in rural Nepal.
I commend the collaboration between the Chinese Embassy, Huawei Nepal, and MoCIT for bringing advanced technology to Shree Buddha Daya Secondary School, which will empower students with the skills necessary to succeed in the digital age. We are committed to ensuring that technology plays a key role in shaping Nepal’s future, and this smart classroom is an important milestone in that journey.”
A special video message from H.E. Mr. Chen Song, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, stated, ” We are proud to support the Smart Classroom initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Huawei Technologies Nepal. This initiative will equip students with essential digital skills and foster creativity. As we celebrate 70 years of Nepal-China friendship, our ongoing partnership underscores our commitment to empowering the next generation through education and innovation.”
Mr. Li Xiaowei, Chief Technical Officer of Huawei Nepal, shared his excitement about the project, stating, “At Huawei, we firmly believe in the power of technology to improve lives.
