President attends Democracy Day main celebration programme


KATHMANDU –  President Ramchandra Paudel has joined a special function organized by the Main Celebration Committee on the occasion of the National Democracy Day- 2081 BS at the Nepali Army Pavilion, Tundikhel today.

On the occasion, the national anthem was presented, the national flag was hoisted and silence was observed in memory of the known and unknown martyrs. A Nepali Army helicopter displayed a banner with ‘The National Democracy Day- 2081 BS’ written on it and showered flower petals. Colourful balloons were also flown at the event.

Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and Nepal Scouts presented ‘March Past’ and ‘Band’ on the occasion. Cultural floats including the traditional Lakhe dance and taekwondo game were presented on behalf of different municipalities in the Kathmandu Valley.

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, lawmakers, Heads and office-bearers of constitutional bodies, high officials of the Government of Nepal, representatives of diplomatic missions and people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.

Democracy Day is celebrated every year on Fagun 7 in the Nepali calendar to commemorate and honour the historic achievements of human rights and political freedom as a result of the successful revolution of 2007 BS and the sacrificial struggle against autocracy.
