Locals in Darchula enjoy Nepal Army’s newly constructed domestic road

DARCHULA : The local residents of Byas municipality-1 in Chhangru, Darchula are now able to travel to and from the district headquarters via the domestic land route after it was made possible for them to travel along the Mahakali river banks following the completion of the Nepal Army’s construction of the Ghantibagad-Chhangru trail road on Monday.

According to Nepal Army spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudel, the compulsion for locals to use foreign land to travel from one place to another place of the country has come to an end with the completion of the trail road.

Prior to this, locals had no other option but to use foreign territory to reach their destinations as the route stretching from the district headquarters to Chhangru via Ghantibagad had been obstructed for the past three years.

The NA has been successful in constructing the domestic route in its four-month-long assiduous efforts. NA sources said the road with two meters breadth and 550 meters length was constructed at the cost of Rs 10.83 million. Around 65 army personnel and 33 civilians were heavily involved in the construction of the road.

On the occasion of handing over the road to the locals, Chief Minister of the Sudurpaschim State Trilochan Bhatta appreciated the Nepal Army for their excellent performance.

As many as 1,250 Nepali nationals of 184 households of the area will directly benefit from the operation of the domestic road. NA said that the mobilization of helicopters and courageous army personnel has made the construction of the road possible in the geographically remote area within a short span of time.
