KATHMANDU – Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has given a call for conducting the party’s 14th general convention in a unified manner. He made the call while inaugurating the party’s ward-level convention at Katunje of Surya Binayak Municipality-5, Bhaktapur, today. Party president Deuba expressed the belief that the party’s general convention will consolidate the internal democracy.
He suggested electing a unanimous leadership of the party through the general convention and giving a message of unity, stating that the general convention would make the party united as it is the forum for formulating the action plan and electing the leadership for the next term.
Stating that the general convention had to be organised amidst the risk of coronavirus infection for saving the Nepali Congress’ legitimacy, the party president called upon all to participate in the general convention, fully abiding the health safety protocols.
Prime Minister Deuba said that the Nepali Congress would make a strong presence in the upcoming election. He added that the party was in a strong position in Bhaktapur.
The process for the general convention has started, he said, adding that the party would be taken ahead more vigorously electing the leadership through democratic system. NC central member Ananda Prasad Dhungana said the NC general convention had kicked off from the ward level, calling for making it a success. “NC remains as the country’s oldest democratic party. The success of the general convention is connected to the future of the nation’s democracy as well.”
NC district president Durlav Thapa said that no one would defeat the party in the district. As he said, hooliganism would never be the reason for achieving a success in the election. “The NC victory from the local to federal election in the future is sure,” he claimed. Ward president Raju Dhungel presided over the programme.
According to Thapa, the general convention has kicked off at 38 wards of the four municipalities in the district and it has been reached to choose leadership in around 50 per cent of wards on the basis of consensus and efforts are on to follow the same practice in remaining wards. The NC Bhaktapur has 10,286 active members: 3,782 in the Constituency 1 and 6,504 in the Constituency 2.
