KATHMANDU : The meeting of the standing committee of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), which had been postponed since July 2 was held on Friday at 11 in the morning.
Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha informed that 13 members of the standing committee had expressed their views on the proposal prepared by the two chairmen of the party. In today’s meeting, senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bhim Rawal, Raghuji Panta, Narayan Kaji Shrestha and other leaders gave speeches.
The proposal of the task force led by General Secretary Bishnu Poudel, formed on the basis of the agreement between chairmen Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kumar Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was presented as a concrete action plan.
A six member task force formed under the coordination of General Secretary Poudel had submitted the report to the chairmen on August 14. The task force formed by the chairmen to settle inter-party conflicts had discussed the report at the secretariat meeting on September 3.
The report suggests that Prime Minister Oli should focus on the work of the government and complete his remaining term, while Chairman Dahal should focus on the party’s executive directives, reshuffle the cabinet if needed, hold general convention at proper times, and complete the remaining work of the party unification as soon as possible.
The task force was formed after a dispute had arisen in the standing committee meeting on June 24 over the distribution of power and coordination between the government and the party.
