Chairperson Nepal for amendment of current electoral system

KATHMANDU – CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal viewed the current electoral system should be revised for the country’s political stability.

Inaugurating the first national convention of the Association of the Socialist Lawyers here today, Nepal, also the former Prime Minister, argued that no political party would be able to attain a majority with the existing electoral system. Hence, he called for revision in the electoral system.

Nepal further explained that that because of the proportional electoral system, it would be difficult for a political party to get majority and the culture of coalition in formation of government would remain there for a long-term. Hence he called all the democratic forces to be united to this end.

Lamenting over lack of socio-economic transformation in the lives of people despite various political changes achieved through several movements, leader Nepal urged the government to guarantee people’s livelihood.

The communist party was borne with the spirit of establishing social justice, achieving equality and development by ending class discrimination, the leader said, adding that the communists upheld the ideas to safeguard country’s territorial integrity, and country’s dignity and to fight against injustices.

He urged the lawyers to work towards delivering social justice by keeping the interest of country and people in centre. He emphasized on increasing investment in industrialization to end unemployment and alleviate poverty, for which, he pressed for implementation of socialist economic system.
