Prime Minister Oli rejects demand to hold party secretariat meeting

Prachanda along with four secretariat members who held informal secretariat meeting on Friday meet Prime Minister Oli in Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Co-chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has rejected a demand of majority of secretariat members to convene the secretariat meeting of the party.

Expressing dissatisfaction with five secretariat members who reached Prime Minister’s residence Baluwatar today to demand the secretariat meeting as decided by the Friday’s informal secretariat meeting, Prime Minister Oli said that he reiterated his position of not holding party’s secretariat meeting.

NCP Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Senior Leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam and Narayan Kaji Shrestha had reached Baluwatar to demand the secretariat meeting.

“You have been holding factional gatherings. Why are you against me? Why and for what purpose I should call the meeting now?” a leader quoted Prime Minister Oli as asking the group led by Prachanda.

Earlier on Friday, an informal secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) convened by party co-chair Prachanda had decided to request Prime Minister Oli to keep the party unity intact.

However, four secretariat members close to Prime Minister Oli had boycotted the informal meeting, terming it a ‘factional’ gathering.
