Indian Army Chief Naravane lands in Kathmandu

Security beefed up in Kathmandu as Indian Army Chief’s three-day official visit begins today


KATHMANDU – Indian Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Mukund Naravane has arrived in Kathmandu for his three-day official visit to Nepal.

Indian Army Chief Naravane just landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. He arrived in Nepal at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Army Purna Chandra Thapa. He arrived via a special aircraft of the Indian army.

Veena Naravane, the chairperson of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) of Indian Army, is accompanying the Indian Army Chief.  They were received by the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Prabhu Ram Sharma and his wife Sunita Sharma at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Indian Army Chief Naravane is scheduled to be conferred upon the rank of an honorary General of the Nepali Army by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari tommorrow amidst an investiture ceremony.

Indian Army Chief is staying at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza. He is scheduled to visit Pashupatinath Temple today with his wife Veena Naravane. Security has been beefed up at Soaltee Crowne Plaza as well as along the routes of the areas where he is visiting.

Before his departure from India, the Indian Army said that the visit aims to further strengthen strategic and defence cooperation between the two countries. “General MM Naravane #COAS proceeded on a three day visit to #Nepal.

The visit aims to further strengthen strategic and defence cooperation between the two countries. The #COAS will be conferred with honorary rank of General of Nepali Army tomorrow,” said Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), in a tweet.
