NCP-led by Prachanda camp picks Bhim Acharya as new parliamentary party leader of Province 1

Chief Minister Rai sacked as parliamentary party leader

KATHMANDU – Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal has picked Bhim Acharya as its new parliamentary party leader of Province 1.

The parliamentary party meeting held on Thursday sacked Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai as the parliamentary party leader and replaced him with Acharya.

Earlier on Sunday, provincial assembly members close to Prachanda-Nepal-led NCP had registered a no-confidence motion against Province 1 Chief Minister Rai who is close to Prime Minister and NCP Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

37 provincial assembly members led by Indra Bahadur Aangbo have signed the motion to vote Chief Minister Rai out of the office.

This is the second province where the NCP lawmakers have initiated a no-confidence motion against their Chief Minister following a split of the ruling party after PM Oli abruptly dissolved the House of Representatives last Sunday.

Earlier on Wednesday, NCP lawmakers of Bagmati had also removed Chief Minister Dormani Poudel as the parliamentary party leader and replaced him with Astalaxmi Shakya.
