KATHMANDU : Top three leaders of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have met the party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ following the formation of a taskforce to sort out intra-party disputes.
At a time when two chairmen of the NCP are on the way toward resolving their disputes, NCP senior leaders—Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal—along with Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha today went to meet Prachanda at his residence in Khumaltar.
During the meeting with Chairman Prachanda, the top three leaders of the NCP demanded an immediate secretariat meeting. Suspicious of the mandate provided to the task force formed by two chairmen under the leadership of General Secretary Bishnu Poudel, they have urged Prachanda to convene the secretariat meeting of the party immediately, according to a source in the party.
The task force led by Poudel as the coordinator includes Shankar Pokharel, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey, Janardan Sharma and Pampha Bhusal. Amid escalation of the dispute with Prachanda-led faction that includes senior leaders Khanal and Nepal, KP Sharma Oli has been ignoring calls for the standing committee meeting from the rival faction.
The Prachanda-led faction has been putting pressure on Oli to give up either the post of Prime Minister or the party chairman. Oli has been rejecting the demand to relinquish any of the post. However, ending months long of the stalemate, the two chairmen reached a preliminary deal on Friday and formed a task force to give a concrete shape to their agreement.
