KATHMANDU – President Bidya Devi Bhandari is going on a two-day visit to Bangladesh. President Bhandari is visiting Bangladesh at the end of March to attend the ceremony to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s Founding Father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to a source at the Sheetal Niwas, President Bhandari is likely to start her visit on March 22. Earlier in November 2019, Bangladesh’s President Mohammad Abdul Hamid had visited Nepal and extended an invitation to President Bhandari to visit Bangladesh.
Though President Bhandari was planning to make a visit to Bangladesh, her trip scheduled for last year was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Tika P Dhakal, President Bhandari’s Information and Communication Expert , said that President Bhandari has received the invitation for the visit to Bangladesh. However, the date for the visit is still being discussed, he said.
Citing Foreign Ministry sources of Bangladesh, Dhaka-based newspaper Dhaka Tribune wrote that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Dhaka on March 26, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on March 17, and Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari on March 22.
Besides attending the golden jubilee celebration, they will hold bilateral meetings with President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Dhaka Tribune cited the sources.
The Bangladeshi government is holding a 10-day program – from March 17 to March 26 – to mark 50 years of an independent Bangladesh and the birth centenary of its founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
