KATHMANDU – The Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (UML) Madhav Nepal’s faction and the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal’s Upendra Yadav faction have decided to constitutionally and politically challenge the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives.
A joint meeting of the parties held today in the Federal Parliament’s Building in New Baneshwor argued that the HoR was dissolved overlooking a ground for forming a new government and agreed to protest against the move collectively. In a press statement issued after the meeting, the parties condemned the Friday mid-night decision to dissolve the HoR by terming it ‘unconstitutional, undemocratic and unilateral’.
They said that political uncertainty, confusion and anarchy were looming in the country with the dissolution of the parliament. The parties said they are committed to protesting against the President and Prime Minister’s move constitutionally and politically.
“We appeal to all political parties and the people to get united against the regressive act of dissolving the House of Representatives by the President and Prime Minister, and for the protection of federal democratic republic, inclusive democracy and the overall interest of the nation enshrined in the constitution achieved after a long struggle and sacrifices of the Nepali people,’’ the parties said.
Though the alliance staked a claim to the formation of a new government with the signatures of 149 HoR members before the President, the refusal to recognize the claim was wrong, the meeting concluded;
The press statement features the signatures of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Centre’s Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (UML)’s leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, JSP Chair Upendra Yadav and Rastriya Janamorcha’s Vice Chair Durga Poudel.
Talking to media after the meeting, leader Dahal said they would move the Supreme Court challenging the Friday mid-night decision with the signatures of 149 lawmakers and protest the decision politically as well. As he said, mid-term elections for coming November 12 and 19 are announced just for the sake of announcement and they will not be held.
