Nepal beats hosts Malaysia by 25 runs in ICC U19 Women’s qualifiers, but faces elimination

KATHMANDU – Nepal has defeated hosts Malaysia by 25 runs in a match under the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers at the UKM Oval Cricket Ground in Malaysia today.

However, Nepal’s dream of playing in the world cup to be organised in South Africa next year has shattered as it has been eliminated from the match. It has been in third place with six points. Out of five matches, it won three and lost two. Malaysia has been also ousted from the match as well.

UAE has topped the group with eight points followed by Thailand in second position with eight points. Today’s match between UAE and Thailand will decide the team making it to the world cup. Elected into bat after winning the toss, Nepal made 86 runs in the allotted 20 overs at the loss of seven wickets.

Chasing the 87-run target posted by Nepal, Malaysia was restricted to 61 runs in 20 overs losing four wickets. For Malaysia, Elsa Hunter hit highest 28 runs. Nepal’s Captain Kritika Marasini took two wickets and Manisha Kumari Upadhyay one wicket.

For Nepal, Anjali Bishwokarma made highest 33 runs and Aashma Pulami Magar 26 runs. Likewise, Srishti Jaishi, Sanu Rajbamshi and Anu Kathayat contributed three runs each.
