KATHMANDU – As many as eight people died in a jeep accident at Okharpata in Gaumukhi in the wee hours of Saturday. The jeep (Ga 1 Kha 5092) carrying bride, groom and wedding attendants fell off some 150 metres from the road at 3.00 am, killing six people on the spot while two died during treatment, according to the District Police Office, Pyuthan. Five were injured in the incident including the bride and groom.
The jeep coming from Lung at Naubahini-6 in Pyuthan and reaching to Liwang of Gaumukhi rural municipality in the district was traveling back to groom’s house with bride and other wedding attendants. Among the deceased, three are from the same family of Gaumukhi-6, police said. The deceased were Basant Khadka, 39, Basanta Khadka,39, and Alice Khadka, 11.
Similarly, jeep driver Bal Bahadur Budamagar, 52, Khim Bahadur Khatri, 32, Keshari Khadka,29, and Nandi Khadka, 52, from the same locality died in the incident. Twenty-year-old Bipin GC of Naubahini rural municipality-6 also lost his life to the tragic road accident, shared police.
Similarly, the deceased have been identified as Rima GC, 20, the bride, and Dan Bahadur Khadka, 25, from, Gaumukhi -6, the groom. Naresh Khadka,17, and Hari Buda Magar,21 of Gaumukhi-6. Sabitri GC 25, of Naubahini-6 also sustained injuries in the incident. The injure ones were receiving treatment at District Hospital at Bijuwar. Bride Rima GC’s health is reported to be critical while groom Dan Bahadur’s was out od danger.
Remaining injured ones’ health is reported to be critical as bride, according to the District Police Office, Pyuthan. Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Kul Prasad KC expressed sorrow over the demise of eight people in the jeep accident. In a condolence message here today, CM KC extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured ones.
Similarly, Hari Prasad Rijal, province assembly member elected from the area where the incident took place, expressed his tributes to the department souls and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured ones.
