It is said the strict traffic checking is aimed to prevent possible incidents of drunk-driving and violation of traffic rules during the festival. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has set up additional check points at 68 locations and mobile vans are patrolling in 19 places. As the Office said, the check point has been established to make the festival decent and safe by averting any untoward incidents during the celebrations. According to Office Superintendent of Police Abhinarayan Kafle, drunk-driving, over-speed, showing indecent behavour in the name of festival celebrations, smearing colour on anyone against will and throwing of water-filled balloons and other violations of traffic rules are not allowed during the festival. The Valley Traffic Police is lately more active to make the festival civilised and safe, it is said.
