Government is Committed to Working According to Public Expectations: PM Karki

KATHMANDU – Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the current government is committed to adopting the national agenda of improving people’s quality of life and ensuring transparency in government operations.

Speaking at a special program organized on Friday to mark Constitution Day, Prime Minister Karki said that legal equality, an end to corruption, good governance, and development are shared expectations of all citizens, and that the interim government is committed to embracing these agendas and working according to public expectations.

She said “With developments in information technology, citizen-friendly governance models seen internationally, and the concerns raised by the younger generation-such as employment opportunities, quality of life, transparency in government operations, legal equality, an end to corruption, good governance, and development-these are shared expectations and a national agenda for all of us. This government is committed to embracing these agendas and working in line with public expectations.”

Similarly, she clarified that she did not become Prime Minister out of personal ambition or desire for power, but at the request of the younger generation to manage the transition during a time of national crisis.

She said “I did not become Prime Minister out of a desire for power or position. During a time of national crisis, at the request of the younger generation, I assumed the role of Prime Minister of this interim government to manage the transition in accordance with Nepal’s Constitution, with the responsibility of handing over to an elected government through House of Representatives elections within six months.”

She further remarked that as citizens’ needs and aspirations evolve over time, the state must act according to people’s expectations and move forward on the path of reform.

Citing the current situation, she said it reflects the inability to fully uphold democratic values such as an independent, impartial, and capable judiciary, the rule of law, and good governance in line with the spirit of the Constitution. She added that people’s sentiments are more multidimensional than the mere letters of the Constitution.
