KATHMANDU – The newly-elected Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, has pledged that he will focus on formulating laws and policies that prevent youths of the Gen-Z generation from having to take to the streets in protest again.
Speaker Aryal articulated his commitment while speaking after assuming the office at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar today.
The Speaker said that the current leadership came into power following the election held in the wake of the Gen-Z Movement (on September 8 and 9 last year) which resulted in significant loss of lives and properties. He reiterated that ensuring such incidents do not recur will be a priority of his tenure.
Speaker Aryal noted that reconstructing the infrastructure damaged during the Gen-Z Movement does not necessarily require new legislation. However, he emphasized that new laws could be devised if necessary to expedite the reconstruction.
On the occasion, he pledged to uphold the dignity, integrity and effectiveness of Parliament by performing his role in a fair, balanced and accountable manner.
The Speaker also underscored the importance of coordination and cooperation with all political parties and lawmakers to establish Parliament as an effective, accountable and people-oriented institution.
