Chitwan– The first round of voting in the inaugural General Convention of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is progressing smoothly.
Voting for the election of the party’s office-bearers began last night and is scheduled to continue until 12:00 noon today, according to the party’s Central Election Commission.
More than 1,600 general convention representatives have already cast their votes, the commission said.
RSP Central Election Commission Chief Bhuwan KC informed that a total of 384 candidates have filed nominations for the party’s Central Committee.
Of them, 210 candidates are contesting in the open category, where 64 members will be elected. Likewise, 174 candidates are competing under the geographical category, with five Central Committee members to be elected from each province.
According to KC, the provincial breakdown of candidates is as follows: 18 from Sudurpashchim Province, 20 from Madhesh Province, 20 from Koshi Province, 27 each from Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, 31 each from Lumbini and Karnali provinces.
The election commission stated that the results of the first round of voting will be announced within two hours after voting concludes. The second round of voting will commence immediately following the announcement of the results.
