Kathmandu [Nepal], July 16 – India and Nepal discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation during meetings between India’s Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Munu Mahawar and Nepal’s top foreign policy officials in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Mahawar paid a courtesy call on Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the two sides discussed strengthening the close and enduring ties between the two neighbours in areas of mutual interest.
In a separate meeting with Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Mahawar reviewed the progress of ongoing bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on advancing shared priorities.
The two officials also discussed ways to deepen institutional collaboration and maintain momentum in high-level engagement between Nepal and India, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meetings come amid discussions in diplomatic circles over a possible official visit by Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah to New Delhi, although no formal announcement has been made by either side.
Mahawar’s visit marks his second trip to Kathmandu since the Gen Z protests in Nepal. He had earlier visited Nepal in December 2025 during the tenure of the interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
The latest engagement comes as Nepal and India continue diplomatic exchanges focused on advancing their bilateral partnership.
