The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court is conducting a hearing today on 13 petitions filed to challenge the government’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives and set dates for fresh election. Chief Justice Rana inducted Malla, a Supreme Court Judge, in the five-member Constitutional Bench that will decide whether the move of the government to dissolve the House is in line with the constitution. Judge Malla will now replace Hari Krishna Karki in the Constitutional Bench after he decided to recuse himself from continuing to hear the case of possible bias. Though the Constitutional Bench was scheduled to conduct continuous hearing from last Wednesday, the hearing was postponed until today after Karki announced that he would opt out of the bench. Biswombhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha and Tej Bahadur KC have been retained in the five-member Constitutional Bench that includes Chief Justice Rana also as a member.
