The arrest of Jhakri, a leader of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal, comes in the wake of her recent statement against the President. The police handed over an arrest warrant and arrested her on sedition charges from her residence Shankhamul. The situation remained tense at her residence as police confronted the cadres gathered to protest against her arrest. Earlier last week at a program in Gorkha, leader Jhakri had criticized President Bidya Devi Bhandari and asked the President to vacate Shital Niwas and go to Balkot. Even after criticism for humiliating the President, she has defended her statement at a mass gathering organized by NCP in Kathmandu. “The institution does not have any gender. That is a public institution. We can speak. We are born to speak out. We can protest against those people who become the footman of Prime Minister Oli,” she had said.
