KATHMANDU: An 18-member team, including Prince Naseer bin Hamid Al Khalifa of Bahrain, has arrived in Kathmandu to climb Nepal’s mountains. The prince’s team will climb the Lobuche and Manaslu mountains.
A team of 18 people, including the Prince of Bahrain, had left for Nepal on Tuesday night to climb the mountain amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
There are 15 Bahraini nationals and three British nationals serving in the Bahrain Royal Guard (Defense Force). The team, who is in Nepal for a two-month program, will climb the Lobuche and Manaslu mountains as pre-preparation to then climb the highest peak, Everest, in 2021.
The Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal had decided to allow the team to come to Nepal for the ascent.
According to the Department of Tourism, almost all members of the team are affiliated with the Bahraini military. The Bahraini prince himself is the commander of the Bahrain Guard.
