KATHMANDU – Domestic flights that were halted due to the second wave of COVID-19 have resumed from today.
Flights to almost all destinations across the country have resumed by following the health protocol, said Director General of Tribhuvan International Airport, Pratap Babu Tiwari, adding that 59 flights have been scheduled for today.
Sixty four flights have been scheduled on a daily basis not exceeding 50 per cent of the total flights, he said. A flight will take off every 10 minutes. An additional temporary baggage claim area has been managed in a bid to minimise passenger’s crowd, he said.
The flight resumption follows the direction to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to resume domestic flights by following the health protocol against the infection until further notice, not exceeding 50 per cent of the total flights.
The government halted domestic flights from May 3 and international flights from May 6 over the infection.
