Kamal Thapa seeks role of Rashtriya Prajatantra Party’s executive chairman

Kathmandu: The Chairman of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Kamal Thapa is now seeking the position of Executive Chairman.

Thapa brought up his proposal with Chairman Pashupati Shamsher JBR and Dr. Prakashchandra Lohani for a separate place within the party at a time when the party’s unity work is still pending.

According to sources, both the chairpersons have rejected the proposal, and have expressed doubts over it, citing that they should first focus on completing works related to the party’s unity work. In addition, Rana and Lohani have stated that the party should be led in such a way that the status of the three chairpersons remains equal until the General Convention.

“Kamal Thapa has demanded the role of the executive chairman within the party as the rest of the work including party unity could not be completed,” a source close to the RPP said. “Both the presidents have disagreed with his proposal and it will not happen.”

As of yet, the RPP has not been able to register with the Election Commission due to its election symbol. While Thapa has taken a stand that the election symbol should be that of a cow, chairpersons Rana and Lohani have disagreed and stated that the symbol should instead be of a plow.

“Kamal Thapa has asked to register the party now. We can decide on the election symbol within six months of the unification. However, it will be six months on August 9,” stated the source. “RPP United wants to register with the election symbol in the commission.”

RPP United has already accepted RPP’s cow as its flag. Therefore, the RPP-United has demanded that the election symbol should be a plow after accepting it as a flag. Similarly, a source has stated that the RPP has already accepted the RPP’s interim constitution.

“RPP United has not merged with RPP. The party is united. In the context of unification, there is a process of survival of both the parties,” the source said. “We have taken a stand that the election symbol of RPP should be a plow. We are not in a position to back down.”
