The cabinet meeting held on Monday evening has decided to make the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Vice Chairman Gautam a National Assembly member. According to a source, the cabinet decision will now pave way for Gautam to become a federal parliamentarian. Following the recommendation of the government, President Bhandari will nominate Gautam to the National Assembly in a post that has fallen vacant for six months now. A seat in the upper house had been lying vacant after Yuba Raj Khatiwada’s two-year tenure as a National Assembly member expired in February. The cabinet recommends the President Bhandari to nominate three members at the National Assembly with 59 seats. Ram Narayan Bidari and Bimala Rai Paudyal are two other National Assembly members nominated by President Bhandari upon the cabinet’s recommendation. Earlier last week, the standing committee meeting had decided to nominate Gautam as a National Assembly member.
