Mutual political trust between Nepal and China growing: Chinese President Xi

BRI cooperation steadily advancing with joint efforts, says Chinese President

KATHMANDU- Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China is willing to join hands with Nepal to actively promote cooperation in ecological and environmental protection as well as scientific research, and better safeguard the precious wealth and home shared by both peoples.

In his congratulation letter to Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the occasion of announcing revised height of Mount Sagarmatha on Wednesday, President Xi said that with the joint efforts of both sides, mutual political trust between the two countries is growing, Belt and Road cooperation is steadily advancing, and a vision of cross-Himalaya connectivity network is turning into a reality..

Calling Sagarmatha, or Mount Qomolangma, an important symbol of the China-Nepal traditional friendship, Xi said it is agreed by both countries as the boundary peak and the peak of China-Nepal friendship.

The letter was read by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the ceremony held to jointly announce the revised height of Sagarmatha.

A new height 8848.86 meters of Mount Sagarmatha, or Mount Everest, was jointly announced by Nepal and China from Kathmandu and Beijing at a special ceremony on Tuesday.

It was during the state visit of the President of China to Nepal in October 2019 that both the Governments of Nepal and China had agreed on the joint announcement of the height of Mount Sagarmatha.

Chinese President Xi also called on China and Nepal to push forward their strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity, and work together to build a closer community of shared future benefitting both countries and peoples.
