KATHMANDU – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has sought resignation of Dev Gurung from the post of Chief Whip of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
According to a party source, Prime Minister Oli, who is also the NCP Chairman, instructed Gurung to step down as the Chief Whip immediately after the standing committee meeting held on Sunday citing that he did not cooperate with the government.
“You did not support the government. You have to resign from the post of the Chief Whip,” a party source quoted Prime Minister Oli as instructing Chief Whip Gurung.
In response to the instruction, Gurung reportedly told Prime Minister Oli that he wouldn’t quit as he became the Chief Whip based on the party’s statute and procedure.
Gurung has already informed party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal about the Prime Minister’s resignation.
Prachanda has already expressed dissatisfaction with Oli about his pressure upon the Chief Whip to quit from the post.
According to the source, he has already urged PM Oli to not convene the Constitutional Council meeting without holding consultations in the party and seek resignation of the party Chief Whip.
