Rival faction preparing to take action against Prime Minister Oli through standing committee meeting

Prachanda and Nepal-led faction is holding discussion to take action against Prime Minister and party Chairman Oli through the standing committee meeting scheduled to be held today

KATHMANDU – After Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli recommended the President to dissolve the parliament, the faction led by ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Senior Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has intensified internal discussion to chart out its strategy.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the cabinet meeting had made a decision to recommend the President to dissolve the parliament.

The decision of the government led by NCP Chairman and Prime Minister Oli has not only escalated the tension in the ruling party, but also plunged the country into a political crisis, according to analysts.

Opposing the PM Oli’s decision to dissolve the parliament, the Prachanda and Nepal-led faction is discussing the action against Prime Minister and party Chairman Oli.
Prachanda, Nepal and another senior leader Jhalanath Khanal along with other leaders of the rival faction are currently holding discussion.

According to a source at the NCP, the rival faction is preparing to take action against Prime Minister and NCP Chairman Oli through a standing committee meeting that is going to be held today. The rival faction is going to make its official stance clear after the discussion, according to the source.

The standing committee meeting of the NCP is also going to be held today. However, Prime Minister and NCP Chairman Oli is likely to remain absent from the meeting.

A standing committee member told Kathmandu Pati that the meeting today is going to take action against Prime Minister and party chairman Oli.
