Chief Minister Rai suspends 15 provincial members for registering no-confidence motion against him

Action against 15 lawmakers of NCP comes after Prachanda-led NCP sacks Chief Minister Rai as parliamentary party leader


KATHMANDU – Chief Minister of Province 1 Sherdhan Rai has expelled 15 provincial members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party(NCP).

Chief Minister Rai suspended 15 provincial members as parliament party members for three months alleging them of getting involved in registering no-confidence motion against him.

The disciplinary action against them follows the decision of NCP-led Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ faction to remove Chief Minister Rai as parliamentary party leader and replace him with Bhim Acharya.

Earlier on Sunday, provincial assembly members close to Prachanda-led NCP had registered a no-confidence motion against Province 1 Chief Minister Rai who is close to Prime Minister and NCP Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

37 provincial assembly members led by Indra Bahadur Aangbo have signed the motion to vote Chief Minister Rai out of the office.

Chief Minister Rai had sought clarification from 19 lawmakers for signing the no-confidence motion.

15 provincial members have been suspended as parliamentary party members, barring them from taking part in any activity of parliamentary party, according to Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari, party’s chief whip.

Those facing suspension are Angbo, Bhim Prasad Acharya, Jiwan Ghimire, Bijay Kumar Biswas, Sabitra Kumari Regmi, Upendra Ghimire, Lilaballabh Adhikari, Rajendra Kumar Rai, Yasodha Adhikari, Laxman Tiwari, Mohan Kumar Khadka, Kul Prasad Samba, Dhirendra Sharma, Tanka Aamgbung and Kusum Kumari Shrestha.
