KATHMANDU- Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has revealed that he would support Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the upcoming Prime Minister if the House of Representatives is reinstated.
In an interview of Prime Television on Tuesday, agitating NCP Chairman Prachanda said he would not become the Prime Mini immediately and his party was ready to accept Deuba as the Prime Minister if the House is reinstated.
Recalling his backing to Deuba as the Prime Minister in the past, he said that he was ready to take any step to establish peace in the country.
“We have said that we would collaborate with Nepali Congress and Janata Samajwadi Party. We have to protect the country from falling off a cliff. I do not claim the post of Prime Minister,” said Prachanda. “I do not have any objection to accepting Deuba as the Prime Minister if the House is reinstated,” he added.
He said that three parties [NCP, Nepali Congress and JSP] could form a coalition government if the House is reinstated. Prachanda also ruled out the possibility of party unification with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led NCP.
Earlier on December 20, Prime Minister Oli had decided to dissolve the House and announced dates for midterm election. The decision has not only left the ruling NCP on the brink of a split, but also triggered nationwide protest against the move.
The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court is conducting hearings to rule whether the move is unconstitutional.
