KATHMANDU – Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal has told the Election Commission that it can participate in its discussion only after Sunday.
Responding to the invitation of the Election Commission for a discussion scheduled for today, the Prachanda-led NCP said that its co-chairs Prachanda and Nepal can neither participate nor nominate representatives for the meeting, citing that both of them are busy in party programs outside the Kathmandu Valley.
“As party co-chairs Madhav Kumar Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda are busy in political programs outside the Valley, they are not able to nominate the representatives. Since party co chairs want to participate in the discussion, it is not possible to be present in today’s scheduled time,” read the letter sent by Prachanda-led NCP to the Election Commission.
The letter signed by party secretary Shree Ram Dhakal also requests the Election Commission to organize the meeting only after Sunday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission had called both KP Sharma Oli-led faction and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’-led faction for a meeting to discuss registration of political parties and preparations of the Election Commission to hold midterm elections.
Raj Kumar Shrestha, the Election Commission’s Spokesperson, had said that the Commission has called Oli-led and Prachanda-led factions of the NCP for a discussion on Friday as both factions have been claiming that the party they represent is the legitimate NCP and they should be provided the election symbol of Sun.
