Prachanda, Nepal join sit-in at Maitighar to protest govt decision to dissolve House

NCP co chairs Prachanda and Nepal along with senior leaders stage sit-in as part of third-phase protest against the government

KATHMANDU – Nepal Communist Party led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal has organized a sit-in protest against the government in Kathmandu.

Both co chairs Prachanda and Nepal along with other senior leaders of the agitating NCP joined the sit-in protest on the street at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu. This is the second time that Prachanda and Nepal have participated in a sit-in protest of the NCP.

Earlier on December 25, they sat on the street at Maitighar Mandala with placards on their chests reading ‘We are here’ as part of nationwide protest against the government’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives and set dates for midterm election.

The NCP has already organized mass assemblies and demonstrations across the country including in major cities like Butwal, Dhangadhi and Biratnagar as part of phase-wise protest programs against the government.

After completing second-phase protest programs, the NCP has been carrying out third-phase nationwide protests including in Kathmandu.

The decision of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to dissolve the House of Representatives on December 20 and set dates for midterm elections has not only left the ruling NCP on the verge of a split, but also prompted the rival faction led by Prachanda to take to the street against the government.
