KATHMANDU – The government and Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) have signed a three-point agreement.
Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, the coordinator of government dialogue committee, and Khadga Bahadur Biswokarma ‘Prakanda’, the coordinator of CPN’s dialogue committee, signed the agreement amid a ceremony where Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and CPN’s General Secretary Biplav are also present.
By signing the agreement, Biplav-led CPN has agreed to shed violence. According to the joint statement, the CPN has agreed to carry out its all activities through peaceful means and resolve political issues through political dialogue while the government will lift its ban on the party.
The government has also agreed to release all cadres and leaders of the CPN and withdraw cases against them. Prime Minister Oli and Biplav are jointly addressing the ceremony after the signing of the agreement.
Earlier on Wednesday, the government-led committee and Biplav-led committee had concluded two rounds of dialogues and announced a deal on Thursday. Following its violent activities, the government on March 12, 2019 had decided to outlaw the CPN led by Biplav and banned its activities.
