President Bhandari begins two-day official visit to Bangladesh

She is scheduled to attend celebration of the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s Founding Father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; hold bilateral meeting with Bangladesh’s Prez and PM

KATHMANDU – President Bidya Devi Bhandari has started her two-day official visit to Bangladesh.

President Bhandari landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka via a narrowbody aircraft of state-owned Nepal Airlines.

President Bhandari is visiting Bangladesh upon the invitation of her Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Abdul Hamid to attend the ceremony to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s Founding Father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal are other members of the President’s 54-member delegation team to Dhaka.

President Bhandari was received by Bangladeshi President Hamid at the airport. Senior ministers were also present at the airport to receive the Nepali delegation.

The Bangladeshi government is holding a 10-day program – from March 17 to March 26 – to mark 50 years of an independent Bangladesh and the birth centenary of its founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and heads and dignitaries of other countries are also visiting Bangladesh to attend the golden jubilee celebration.

Besides attending the golden jubilee celebration, they will hold bilateral meetings with President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

President Bhandari is scheduled to return to Nepal on Tuesday.
